The Leeds Permaculture Network is a group of people interested in learning about and using permaculture to transform our local environment and living spaces.
The LPN:
- Supports local permaculture projects through promoting events and organising activity days;
- Holds monthly gatherings open to all on the last Tuesday of every month (except August and December);
- Provides a contact point for people wanting to get involved in Leeds;
- Promotes education and courses, both through the LPN's own events and those of the Yorkshire Teachers' Network.
You can get involved by:
- Signing up to the LPN email list;
- Registering on this site, enabling you to post details of your own projects, photos, videos and articles;
- Coming along to one of the Tuesday gatherings;
- Helping out at an existing project, or any other volunteer day or activity day.
There is no joining fee and no official membership; we are a network, and everyone is welcome to participate.
About permaculture
Permaculture is a system of design, ethics and principles for sustainable living, based on the philosophy of co-operation with nature and caring for the earth and its people. Permaculture is about creating sustainable human habitats by following nature's patterns.
It uses the diversity, stability and resilience of natural ecosystems to provide a framework and guidance for people to develop their own sustainable solutions to the problems facing our world, on a local, national and global scale.
To find out more about permaculture, please visit the what is permaculture section of our links page. There is a vast quantity of material on the subject, which we don't intend to replicate on this website, but we are keen to point people towards useful resources, so if you come across a good explanantion of what permaculture is about, please post it on our links page (you might have to register first if you haven't done so already).
About the LPN
The LPN began in mid-2006 with a series of educational / social events were organised at the Common Place in Leeds city centre. These events grew into the popular Tuesday socials, which still form the backbone of the LPN to this day.
We were formally constituted in September 2007, and so we have a committee of volunteers who oversee the running of the organisation. Since we received our first grant in Spring 2009, this ensures that the funds are well managed and enables us to assist smaller projects.
